Looking for news in the breast cancer arena always provides something worth thinking about and following. Recently reading, has put a possible link between high cholesterol and breast cancer and the need for much more information and study but it is another avenue to pursue in the quest to finish this dreaded disease. Another item of interest is about a blood test that may in fact be an early warning sign of breast cancer even if they don't have the inherited gene linked to it. We are familiar with BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 and how having those genes can increase the risk of developing breast cancer. Some have done a preemptive strike and have had mastectomy due to the results from the BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 testing. At this time a small percentage of breast cancers are caused by the BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 gene. There has been no way to predict for those not having the genes what the chances are for developing breast cancer. I for one, did not have a positive BRCA 1 or BRCA 2 gene and yet I had breast cancer. This new information that are looking to this data, is very promising and could mean in the future that we would know if you are at a higher risk of developing breast cancer just by this simple blood test.
