Today is just another day in PA with snow and more snow but, I have the opportunity to head to Titusville to the PITT campus and be at their health fair and talk to students, faculty, and staff. There wiil be some that come just to see what I might say and some that come that have known someone with cancer and some that come that are personally touched either by family or themselves. Each person has their own story and their own fears and concerns. I find it so important to talk to the young adults in communities to try and encourage healthy lifestyles and awareness. You see I have five children, all grown and gone and am acutely aware that I no longer can be the influence in their lives that I once was. I look at my 4 sons and hope that they will follow healthy lifestyles and care enough to do the right things and follow the right course and to be involved with the well being of their wives, significant others, and their children. I laid the ground work and now I just pray. I don't make them happy all the time as on ocassion I mention something that may seem out of whack in their lives and they can be upset at me but hopefully they will come back around and know that it is out of love. I have one son that I have voiced some concerns to recently and was rapidly told that worrying can cause ulcers too. So I guess we say our piece and go on. After I lost my mom and dad, I realized how much I missed that compass as Dad would often help by redirecting me when I may have been off course. Now I also have a daughter and I often wonder what I have passed to her genetically and if she too will have to face breast cancer down the road. I pray not and try to encourage those lifestyle changes that will help her down the road but once again, I can only offer up my "Sage" (haha) wisdom and pray that it doesn't fall on deaf ears. So I continue to reach out, teach and hopefully provide a compass for those that are seeking information, guidance and changes to a more healthy lifestyle. I am making it a great day today!. S
