Beautiful wedding but hot this weekend! Mike left on Sunday and now we are heading for Grandma camp and I will be gone next week. Testing went well and the trip to Pburgh completed. Few more tests and questions to go but all in all, doing well. This then brings me to my story of the day. Mike and our Golden Retriever- Duke who grew up like a brother to Mike. This dog wrestled with Mike, slept with him and followed him everywhere. As Mike was packing his car on Sunday morning and all the doors to the car were open and the hatch- up in the back, Duke would pace around one side of the car and then back around the other continuing to look into the car and occasionally put his head on the seat of the car. He has been taught not to get into the car until someone tells him ok and so he sat and watched as Mike packed up and he continued to pace. If Mike went into the house he would sit at the end of the sidewalk by the car looking at the car and continue looking back and forth until Mike reappeared. Finally the moment came that the car doors were shut and Mike loaded and into the car to pull out of the drive and head to Idaho. We held onto Duke as Mike left and you could visibly see the heartache as Mike left and Duke remained. Duke is eleven and getting older but he swam with Mike while he was home, and ran with him and went for walks and got so tired and limping that we actually took him to the vet to check him out and make sure he was ok. Mike will be missed and Duke will adjust but it brings to light two things that are worth mentioning. The first being the profound effect that a dog can have on your life. Duke was and is Mike's best friend no matter what! Our therapy dogs come in and brighten our patient's day and the staff as well. It is therapeutic for all around and a win-win situation. Second is the fact that we all have things we look forward to and plan for and rally for as the need arises. Think of these things in your own life and how it impacts you and your situation. Positive Attitude and Love and Compassion should be an integral part of everyone's life regardless of where you are or what you are facing with that, commitment to yourself and others is just as important. The angels among us might just be furry four legged beings and looking ahead with promise and goals brightens everyone as they face the future. Making it a great day! S
