At this point he is doing better and we return to the house and he is actually hungry and thirsty and takes some in which exits but the two main routes possible and I know have a mess in the house to clean up. My husband volunteers his help and I ask him to take the dog out so that I can give him a couple tablespoons of canned whole pumpkin that will stop the diarrhea and vomiting. He does take him out and I administer the pumpkin to a very wary dog but the long and the short of it, all is fine and although it was a little hairy for the time being , I think we could have one America's Funniest Home Video and the $10,000. I must have been quite the sight in my pj's straddling this big dog from behind and doing the heimlich but in the end it all worked out. So I promise I will get back to needed information tomorrow but just for a moment visualize in your mind, the dogs, myself and my husband in the back yard carrying on like this. I waited all day for the humane society to show up and charge me with animal abuse, but not really. All is well that ends well and making it a great day! S
Ok, as I said I am back and although this blog is about being a survivor and also dealing with breast cancer, I am going off the beaten path to give you a little laugh. Last night after coming home from work and first day back after vacation and being sick, I was exhausted. I baked some cookies and muffins and we ate dinner and my rather large Golden Doodle puppy still wanted to play. I had put my pj's on but asked my husband to go out back with me and play with our dogs. The little one hates storms and as we had just had a storm I had medicated him or he would have scrated through a wall to China to get away from the storm. Out the back door we go with one small dog, staggering around the back yard like a drunken sailor due to the drug I had given him to calm him. The bigger dog was running and playing and the next thing I knew he was chewing a stick and it got stuck in his throat. He was thrashing about and slobber being slung everywhere on the little dog, himself, and me. I ran to him and proceeded to stick my hand down his throat to try and dislodge whatever it was since I couldn't see it. He was still breathing ok but getting more and more scared as it went on so I did the next thing I could think of. I straddled the dog in my pj's and performed the Heimlich maneuver several times to no avail. My husband stood watching this spectacle and so I ran into the house to get hydrogen peroxide which will actually make a dog vomit. I figured better out than in and gave him some. No results so back to the Heimlich. At this point, I can't imagine what the neighbors thought but I wasn't going to quit till I could fix it for him. Still no vomiting I gave hime some more and then shortly thereafter he vomited about 4 times and I could see a small stick in the remains and felt we had crossed the danger line. Well the next thing I knew he was back pulling at his mouth and trying to get out whatever was still in there so back in I went with my hand and there I found another stick stuck crosswise in his upper palate and was able to remove it. His eyes were as big as saucers at this point and I figured a little water would help. He, at this point is scared of me and cowers as I come near with the water. He sniffs it and looks at me and back to the water several times and then promptly takes his paw and knocks the water over proving that his intelligence told him not to drink anything more I was offering.
