Yesterday, threw me for a loop as I almost didn't make it in to work with a migraine that was leveling me. I worked till 12:30 and gave it up and went home and packed my head in ice, closed all the blinds and went into the fetal position. Today is recovery mode and as I am working away at my desk, I hear the four ladies across from my office that are waiting for treatment, laughing and enjoying the time to verbalize. This group is therapeutic on their own and have bonded into their own support group. I sometimes become involved and will answer questions and direct and address their needs but for the most part, they are an eclectic group that enjoys these morning chats and laughter abounds. Who would have thought that you could laugh while waiting for treatment but laugh they do. They are supplying their own recovery in the process and although there is laughter, they also confront some of their common issues. I am amazed by the resiliency of the group as well as their diversity and also their comradery. It is great to see such wonderful dynamics working for the good of the group. Most people are not excited about support groups and few attend but rather like one on one with a friend or use of the internet( which is not always good). This group came together just because of schedules and the common diagnosis and treatment. As they slowly diminished one by one and leaving after their treatment was completed, plans were made to do breakfast together. They are promoting their own recovery and under other circumstances, might not even find each other. As I reorganize my thoughts and goals for the day, I am smiling as they are making their own day better. S
