I got to Pioneer Gas and Steam Engine grounds on Saturday morning and participated in the opening ceremonies and made the first lap as a survivor with all the other survivors. I am not sure why that is so difficult for me but I would much prefer cheering on the other survivors as they go around the track. I continued to walk and talk and spend monies around the track. A fun part of the day was walking with my roommate from college and then we found the big blow up slide and jump house and blow up walkway. We convinced the set up men that they needed it tested and then we did actually test it and laughed like little kids as we came down the slide. It was fun to let go and just laugh and act like kids again. It was a funny day as it rained off and on and the the track was mucky and muddy but smiles prevailed and kids and adults looked like they were having fun. I don't think it looked like as many tents were there or that there were as many people there but I am guessing the weather was a big drawback. It may also be the times and financial concerns that we all face but I do know that now more than ever we need to support the programs that support those in need. Cancer is not going away anytime soon, I am afraid to say but that is the reality of it and so many are underinsured or not at all. Everyone's purse strings are drawing tighter. I know we work to keep our own benevolent fund solvent so we can reach out and help those who are struggling financially during treatment and of course our pockets are not deep enough to help all. I am not sure how to make sense of it all but I do know that pulling together is the only thing that will keep us going in the right direction. I will continue to do the survivor walk through work and at other activities and hope you will join me in making it a great day. S
