Just had the lunch time support group for past and present patients. Although we never know how many will show up, it has always been a time of sharing. We were small but mighty and I will say we had alot of laughs. It is probably strange to think that dealing with cancer, you can have laughter but my thought is that laughter is one of the best medicines there is. It is a stress reliever, breaks the tension, pulls you away from the every day of cancer treatment, and it is just good clean fun. I must admit I probably have a sick sense of humor being in the medical field as I can find humor in almost anything and most often do. If I can see a smile, my day is made. If I can share a smile, it is even better. There is so much negativity in everything we deal with in our daily lives that I really think you have to refocus and find the fun and if you can't- then make it. As my kids grew up, they experienced many of my shenanigans from whip cream battle fights to slip and slides in the back yard and zip lines that everyone used, not just the kids. I had a dear friend in her late 80's that I put on the trampoline in the back yard and then we played crack the egg and we all were laughing. This precious lady even got a padded wheelbarrow ride around the house one day. I am not above doing the silliest thing just to make that smile. Growing up is not a prerequisite to being successful in life if you actually now when to reign it in. Too often we take ourselves to seriously and just letting go and letting that higher power guide is the best you can do. So for now, I am smiling and laughing and hoping to make it a better day.S
