Just back from speaking in Fairview, and it was an interesting day. I did enjoy the opportunity to teach and I found many questions that I could help with. IT is always amazing to find so many affected by breast cancer either personally or by friends or contacts. There is only 1 in 10 women who have breast cancer that have a genetic history of the disease. Also breast cancer accounts for more than 1 in 4 cancers diagnosed in US women. Every three minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer. About 2,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are diagnosed in men eacy year. The new buzz word I hear from patients is PARABENS. This is a chemical found in lotions, sunscreens and deodorant. These chemicals are known to disrupt hormone function , an effect that is linked to increased risk of breast cancer and reproductive toxity. This chemical is also abosrbed in the skin. Many companies have removed Parabens from their products and it never hurts to read the label and make informed choices. That is education for you. Keep learning and listening and we will continue to make each day better. I am off to enjoy a day with my son that just returned from Italy and my daughter who is coming home from Florida to share the weekend. Be safe and keep smiling. S
