This is a common question I here in many different arenas. That is right along with what causes cancer and if there was a one word answer, I think we would all know it. We are aware that there are things we can do to reduce our risk of cancer including breast cancer. There has been a definite link established between the use of estrogen and progestin hormone therapy. I don't think there are many women my age that can't remember their mother taken some type of hormone replacement therapy and many took it for years. We also look at excess weight, alcohol consumption, and even the relationship to lack of physical activity as being a consistent link in cancer. The years of smoking has established a definite correlation. So what do we need to look at in the environment and what can we do to reduce our risk? There is a definite evidence of a relationship to environmental factors. Should we be considering the amount of lifetime exposures to these environmental factors? Lets even consider the possible unnecessary medical radiation and the industry influence on the environment before there were environmental controls. How many companies in your area dumped their wastes into the look water as in rivers, lakes, tributaries? What about the levels that are in the air we breathe? These are all factors to consider when we look at the possibilities of environmental factors contributing to cancer. So stop and look and think about what environmental factors may be contributing to some health risks in your life and your families. There are things we can do to improve our health and the health of our homes and communities. It is a great day (albeit, COLD)! :}
