I remember visiting my grandmother for the whole summer and every day there was a pick up baseball game and you didn't come in at night till dark after playing kick the can and just have fun. We would walk the streams in our barefeet and ride bikes in the cemetary and scare each other. Now kids have hand held games and kids aren't playing in the neighborhood as they are all at their different camps and trainings and games or computers.
How many forts did we build and how many apple fights were there? Not now, my heavens, someone could get sued.
My mantra as I get older is: BACK TO BASICS. All the tv'shows, camps, computer programs, texting, and IM hasn't made this world better. Fast Food, Fast times, and Fast life has not improved our quality of life. Let us all slow down, kids will be here soon and I plan on showing them how we figure out clould figures in the sky and watch the corn grow and building an ant farm and go catch some crayfish and look at the stars at night and catch fireflies. I don't need expensive toys and gifts or the best name brand clothes for them. We will color together, read books, make S'mears (with peanut butter) and spot deer and float down the river. I remember those times that my grandma and myself sat on the front porch and had root beer floats and that might even have been breakfast once in awhile. So from parent to grandparent, this is my one week to embrace my family and slow it down and as crazy as it might get, I know the silence when they all go back is worse. So today and each day I will make it great, my grandkids and
