I read a recent article in Redbook (June 2010) that talked about your risk of melanoma increasing by 75 % when you use tanning beds before the age of 35. So, think about your daughters, sisters and others that are trying to get that PROM tan or look good for summer. Last year, (the article goes on to say) The International Agency for Research on Cancer shirfted indoor tanning devices to the highest cancer risk category: "carcinogenic to humans." Now I don't know about you but that just scares me when so many are using this just thinking that it makes them look better. Not only are they more vulnerable to melanoma but also 2 1/2 times more likely to be dianosed with squamous cell carcinoma and 1 1/2 times more likely to be susceptible to basal cell carcinoma. It also can have a drug like effect, as users of the tanning beds can become addicted to it and actually experience withdrawal when they stop. I am one among those numbers, I used to tan and I had a small cancer resulting from it, but I am fine ( after excision of the area) and also learned my lesson so I am now out teaching about the dangers or this "tanning experience".
Ok so now I am off the soap box for today. I hope you have a terrific weekend and that you can relax and just take time to enjoy the moment.
Regrouped and making it a great day!
