Often women don't take the time to consider reconstruction as they are to busy with the immediate needs of dealing with the cancer. Also they are looking at treatment and completion of that and getting back to a normal life as soon as possible. My suggestion is to talk to a plastics doctor to be informed as they can provide further input in your learning process. Most times women do not discuss these issues openly with their surgeon but even if they decide to not do it at the time of their surgery, it does not mean down the road they can't reconsider. I didn't even consider any alternatives until 5 years out and as more and more new proceedures and techniques come out and I am learning more and more, my options are widening. Like anything, it may take some time initially to recover but the long term outcome may make you feel more comfortable in your own skin and your life choices and outlook.
Take your time, think and do what is best for you.
Great day
