I am always amazed when we have a shortened week it only means you work longer and harder the days you are there. We have all come back from a wonderful relaxing vacation and two days back at the job and you need a vacation. How often we put all our eggs into one basket, the family vacation or the big trip to a fun spot and after much anticipation, it arrives and it isn't quite what we expected, good and bad. I often see patients that come in with so many perceptions that would scare the most stalwart person. Granted, coming here is not what anyone wants to do and no one wants or expects to have to deal with Cancer just like I never planned on ever being divorced but things do happen. We often see people deal with diversity here as they would in their lives outside of here. Some come with fears and dread and are all but disabled by their thoughts and yet others come with strength and verve and are ready to march forward. What makes us different, I don't know but we all still have needs. We all deal with our issues different be it food, drink, sleep, or excercise and anything in excess is not a good thing. I used to say I loved working with those patients that were angry and fighting because they were still in the game as opposed to the person that just sits down and shuts up and shuts out. Cancer levels all playing fields and building is difficult and it can't be done alone. We are a team, here and at home to help you through this walk wherever it takes you. Let people in but don't let them overtake you. I am beside you and will hold your hand but yet you are still the one that is dealing with what lies ahead. I have walked before you with my own cancer journey but as much as we may be alike we are different and that is ok. You do what you need for you at this moment in time and I will be waiting when and if you need me. Each day is great as long as I am here to experience it. S
