I am constantly reading, looking up new information and always trying to learn what is happening in the interest of breast cancer and what I can bring to you. The face of the disease is changing in that we are seeing younger and even older but we talk about cancer being a chronic disease and that is one that is very hard for me to grasp. I know diabetes is a chronic disease and now we put cancer in the same category. Our treatments are improving and our care and diagnosis is improving but one thing remains, a cure? Are we any closer now with all the information we have on genomics ? Is it a virus, is it a bacteria? is it due to stress, environment, diet? Is it all of the above? What one thing can we tackle to change the face of this disease totally? I want a cure, don't get me wrong, I am thrilled we have come so far but I still want to get where we don't have to treat and remove, and administer to the enemy that ravages our bodies. I wish we had the answer but as I look back to when my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer and died at age 69 and know that I am rushing up on that number in a very rapid way, where is the answer? The faces of cancer has changed as well as the treatment and outcome but we are still losing people and we are still dealing a heavy blow when you give someone the diagnosis of cancer. I recently read that an average cancer person will spend $300,000 to $600,000 for cancer care. It is not a cheap disease and financially puts everyone at a hardship. Where are the answers and how soon will they come? I would gladly give up my career in the field if the answer was here right now, in the meantime, I pray that it will come sooner than later and in the meantime, I will keep reading and learning and sharing. Making it a great day! S
